REVIEW / Meizu Pro 7: The Chinese Smartphone with Dual OLED Screens

Meizu has taken things a bit slower this year and waited a while before announcing its new flagship model. The Meizu Pro 7 is launching nearly a year and three months after its predecessor, the Meizu Pro 6.
As is typical for Meizu, the phone is well-built. The metal body is high-quality, and its slight curve along the edges makes it quite comfortable to hold. The secondary screen serves a purpose similar to that of a smartwatch: it allows you to quickly glance at your notifications or view content from your photo gallery (though this feature seems a bit unnecessary).

Meizu Pro 7 test results:
Pros:
Impeccable build quality, very attractive design, excellent finish—you can tell you’re dealing with a premium phone.
A well-optimized OLED screen with excellent brightness, allowing for comfortable viewing even in direct sunlight, and a very pleasant experience when browsing YouTube.
Clean, well-captured photos in daylight, thanks to a high-quality camera sensor.
Very solid battery life provided by the 30,000mAh battery.
Impeccable audio quality, very good speakers.
Cons:
Screen-to-body ratio is a bit on the low side.
Nighttime photo quality needs improvement.
Not waterproof and no microSD slot.
Conclusion:
Meizu’s new flagship phone once again stands out as a very interesting alternative to market giants like Samsung, but it still makes a few minor compromises that prevent it from being flawless—though they do keep its price lower than the competition. In this case, it’s a slight dip in night photography performance and a design that goes a bit against the current trend that hold it back, but nothing too serious in the end. The Meizu Pro 7 will therefore go head-to-head with its mid-range competitors, such as the OnePlus 5 and the HTC U11.
